GENERAL PURPOSE

The purpose of the NEUMO group is to encourage the involvement of hospital pharmacists in the drug treatment of patients with respiratory conditions, prioritizing the effectiveness and safety of the treatment, the integration of pharmacists into multidisciplinary teams, and the patient’s perspective.

SPECIFIC GOALS

  • To draw a map of the current status of hospital pharmacists in respiratory units
  • To benchmark best practices and experiences of professional excellence (hospitals, multi-level coordination, management at regional level, etc.) and select those that should be transferred to units that may benefit from them.
  • To determine the general and specific (COPD, asthma, pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, infection, allergy, transplants, etc.) competencies hospital pharmacists should possess to work in respiratory units. (
  • To encourage upskilling in the realm of respiratory conditions
  • To promote the superspecialization of pharmacists in the area of respiratory conditions.
  • To prepare patient information materials on the characteristics of the different respiratory conditions and the drug therapy associated with them.
  • To draw up consensus documents.
  • To collaborate in projects and activities with other SEFH Workgroups and with the workgroups established by the Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) and other societies of interest.
  • To cooperate with public institutions, universities, pharma companies and patient associations such as the Spanish Federation of Respiratory Diseases (FENAER).
